ALTERTRACE / IMAGE AUTHENTICITY IN EVERYDAY LIFE
One image. Dozens of reasons to check it.
Not every suspicious photo concerns a retail claim. An image may build an alibi, social status, a false identity or a document's credibility. AlterTrace analyses it through six independent layers and explains which signals deserve attention.
โฌ4.90 per case ยท up to 5 images + 2 follow-ups ยท PDF report includedImages can be created, altered and stripped of history in moments.
records provenance and edits
Content Credentials can contain cryptographically signed creation and editing history. Their presence is useful; their absence does not automatically mean fakery.
C2PA โ Content Credentials โmakes impersonation easier
The FTC and Europol describe AI-enabled impersonation, fraud and convincing synthetic material as real risks.
FTC โ AI impersonation โindependent layers in one report
AlterTrace combines provenance, metadata, file structure, compression, pixels and external models. No single layer decides alone.
Detector limitations โ 2026 benchmark โMetadata, Content Credentials and detectors are technical signals, not automatic proof. Originals, context and independent confirmation still matter.
From a harmless boast to an image affecting money or reputation.
The goal is not to distrust every photo. It is to check material when something does not add up, the stakes are high or the image is being used instead of other evidence.
โFishing with friendsโ
A partner sends a lakeside photo, but the light, people or background look illogical. Analysis may flag generation or compositing, but it cannot establish the sender's real location or company.
A celebrity photo on social media
Someone posts a meeting with an actor, athlete or musician that never occurred. Face insertion, generative expansion and a fully synthetic scene leave different signals.
An altered document image
An invoice, bank confirmation, contract or ID image has a changed amount, date or name. AlterTrace can assess local image edits, not verify the document in the issuer's records.
A listing for something they do not own
A seller shows a car, flat, watch, electronics or pet they do not possess. Combine analysis with reverse image search and a request for a fresh coded photo.
A dating profile for a person who does not exist
A polished profile contains a consistent series of synthetic portraits. Analysing several together can reveal shared generator and processing signals.
A contest result or achievement
A screenshot, certificate, app result or submitted work has been created or altered. The report can organise signals but should not replace source verification.
Damage, accident or insurance
A photo of a damaged car, flooded room or parcel supports a payment or liability claim. High risk should trigger further inspection, not an automatic accusation.
A viral image that looks too good
A politician, disaster, protest or extraordinary event spreads without a source. File analysis can be a first filter alongside author, location and independent reports.
Sometimes it is curiosity. Sometimes a real decision depends on the image.
Use the result proportionately. The higher the stakes, the more important external confirmation becomes.
A private doubt
- the image contains odd details
- you know the context and sender
- the result helps frame questions
Money, reputation or a formal decision
- the image affects payment or judgement
- originals and new views may exist
- independent sources are available
AlterTrace does not investigate or identify people. It assesses technical properties of supplied files, so context and other evidence remain necessary.
You do not need to know how an image was faked to start checking it.
An image may be fully generated, locally altered, composited, recompressed or stripped of metadata. AlterTrace collects different signals into one readable report.
Up to 5 images per case
Compare a portrait series, document versions or several views of the same event rather than one selected frame.
2 follow-up images
For seven days, request two precisely defined new views and add them without paying again.
Six signal layers
Provenance, metadata, format, compression, pixel anomalies and independent models cover different kinds of intervention.
Result in under 60 seconds
Receive a shared risk scale and layer explanations without manually using several tools.
Readable PDF report
Keep, share or attach the result to the documentation of a case.
No account or contact details
No phone or email. A secure case link provides access and must be retained.
File first. Context second. Decision last.
Get the best version
Ask for the original rather than a screenshot. Do not crop or re-save it before analysis.
Add comparison material
Upload up to five photos of the same person, item, document or event together.
Read signals, not just a percentage
Review layer agreement, metadata, structure and whether low file quality limits the conclusion.
Confirm outside the image
Call a known number, verify with the issuer, run reverse image search or request a new photo with an agreed detail.
Image analysis cannot read minds or replace an investigation.
We check the image, not the person. The result should support better questions and a more cautious decision โ not provide a convenient verdict.
- It cannot confirm infidelity, location, relationships or the author's intention.
- It cannot verify a document with a bank, authority, company or issuer database.
- Low risk is not a guarantee; high risk is not automatic proof of fraud.
- Screenshots, compression, filters and missing originals can remove or imitate manipulation signals.
- The PDF is not expert testimony, an authenticity certificate or grounds for publicly accusing someone.
How to check whether a photo is real, AI-generated or locally manipulated
A photo may be fully generated or contain one altered person, date, amount, face, background or object. Detecting photomontage therefore requires metadata, JPEG or PNG structure, compression history, generator signatures, local anomalies and several independent models.
AlterTrace can analyse suspicious images from messaging, social media, listings, dating profiles and private conversations. It may flag manipulation in a supposed fishing photo, but cannot establish infidelity or the sender's location.
For document images, the analysis may identify unnatural text edges, local editing and compression differences, but it does not replace confirmation with the issuer. A celebrity photomontage should also be checked against original publications and other event images.
One payment covers up to five initial images and two follow-ups within seven days. Results usually arrive in under 60 seconds, the PDF is included, no account, phone or email is required, and case materials delete automatically after seven days.
What can a suspicious image actually tell you?
01Can you check if my partner is really fishing?+
We can assess whether the supplied image shows generation or manipulation signals. We cannot establish the person's location or company.
02Can you detect a celebrity pasted into a photo?+
We may find local anomalies and structural or compression differences, but a strong edit can remain inconclusive.
03Can the report prove a document image is fake?+
It assesses the image, not the document's legal status or issuer record. It can justify verification at source.
04Can I check a dating profile?+
Yes. Several original profile images are better than one. Also run reverse image search and verify through another channel.
05Do you identify faces?+
No. We do not identify people or compare faces with a database.
06How many photos are included?+
Up to 5 initial and 2 follow-up images in the same case for seven days.
07How fast is the result?+
Usually under 60 seconds, depending on files and external layer availability.
08Can I publicly accuse someone using the report?+
We advise against it. The report shows probability and anomalies, not a person's guilt.
